UC’s Leadership in Innovation Shapes What Comes Next 

Innovation is central to UC’s identity and vision for the future. It drives how we educate students, advance groundbreaking research, strengthen our communities, and solve real-world problems. While this innovative spirit is in the DNA of every one of our colleges and schools, and built into our cooperative education program, UC’s 1819 Innovation Hub is the locus of our collaborative activity that results in new ideas, partnerships and advancements. We’ve seen a variety of 1819 Innovation success stories in recent months, including:

Yet the value of our degrees continues to rise primarily because our alma mater is also ascending. A recent article in Forbes about how higher education is preparing students for successful careers prominently features UC, our co-op program and work-integrated learning model. 

A series of co-op rotations at American Honda Motor Co. led JP Suozzi, CEAS ’25, to join the company’s racing division. As a trackside engineer, he was part of the team that won the closest-ever Indianapolis 500 on May 24.

The University of Cincinnati Foundation recently announced the addition of seven Bearcats for Life to the organization’s Board of Trustees, including two current students.

UC’s rising enrollment of nearly 54,000 is driving the addition of more student housing around campus. The most recent project is also the largest, occupying the long-dormant land between Calhoun and McMillan adjacent to Vine. 

It’s always satisfying when families share deep UC ties over generations. Dr. S. Russell Vester, Med ’83, has gotten to help train and work with his daughter, Dr. Hannah Vester, Med ’24, in their shared specialty, cardiac and thoracic surgery. 

Cincinnati Football will officially kick off the 2026 season by inviting fans to Pancake With Us on Saturday, Aug. 8, with a complimentary pancake breakfast on Sheakley Lawn before the Bearcats hold an open practice at Historic Nippert Stadium.

The UC Alumni Association will host “Bearcats on the Road” when UC Football makes its first trip to Tucson to play the Arizona Wildcats on Oct. 3. Early registration for Loyal Bearcat Society members will be available later this month.
