Ohio’s Talent Pipeline Gets a Huge Bearcat Boost
|
Nationally Ranked Co-op Program a Big Benefit for the Region and State
|
Next month, the economy, particularly in the Greater Cincinnati region and throughout Ohio, is going to get its annual spring booster shot. That’s because the University of Cincinnati will send its Class of 2026 into the workforce to make the profound difference that only Bearcats can make. Of course, new graduates will fan out across the country and around the world, too, but they’ll have a tremendous impact closer to our home, something that Ohio really counts on.
It’s worth noting that these freshly minted alumni have been making an impact already as students, thanks largely to UC’s renowned co-op program. It’s a crucial part of their education and career preparation. Complementing classroom learning with actual on-the-job training elevates their overall UC experience. Co-op students average over $11,000 in earnings each semester. They’ll carry about 12% less student loan debt than their peers. And with their real-world opportunities as undergraduates, they have a 98% employment or grad school placement rate. There aren’t many “sure things” in this world, but succeeding through UC co-op is one of them. It’s a big reason why UC’s enrollment keeps rising every year, bucking national trends; people are drawn to success.
In my role, I frequently interact with alumni business leaders, many of whom are among UC's 1,700+ co-op employee partners and products of our co-op program. Of all the ways they’re proud of their alma mater, this one stands out: They’re excited about UC’s track record for producing the next generation of leaders, innovators and problem-solvers, and giving them an enormous head start on their careers through the co-op program. We’re connecting the businesses of today with the workforce of tomorrow. When we say “Next Lives Here” at UC, this is Next personified.
