Reflecting on an Unforgettable Homecoming

OLD AND NEW TRADITIONS DRAW ALUMNI BACK TO CAMPUS

Alumni cheering in the stands during the Homecoming football game

Thousands of alumni returned to campus the weekend of Oct. 19 for one of the most memorable Homecoming celebrations in UC’s long history. Many more visitors to the area were acquainted with the legacy of UC alumni excellence during the 2024 edition of BLINK, the nation’s largest public light and art event, where the UC Alumni Mural in Over-the-Rhine made an unforgettable impression.

As always, at Homecoming we offered a vibrant slate of activities that drew loyal Bearcats home to Cincinnati — from the UC-Ohio State men’s exhibition basketball game to numerous college-based, interest and affinity network events. With an “Eye of the Bearcat” theme, the traditional parade down Clifton Avenue featured 50 student organizations, alumni groups and community partners, plus grand marshal and recent UC Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Omar Cummings, CECH ’18, one of UC’s greatest soccer players. Afterward, the Bearcats defeated Arizona State in front of a sold-out crowd in historic Nippert Stadium.

Homecoming’s heartwarming spirit is reflected in the individuals and groups who have carved out traditions over time; we “do Homecoming” in personal ways that strengthen our relationship with our alma mater and fellow Bearcats. For example, the Double A Alumni Tailgate and fundraiser has organically grown over two decades from a small group of alumni to the 3,000 who filled much of Short Vine. A group of Golden Bearcats (50+ years since graduation) were our special guests for a parade viewing party. The annual CEAS Homecoming Celebration drew 225 alumni and friends. Nearly 300 celebrated the enormous impact of philanthropy at the George Rieveschl Recognition Dinner. More than 1,000 students participated in Student Alumni Council-organized festivities that reflected their pride in being future alumni and lifelong Bearcats. And that’s just a sample of our jam-packed Homecoming schedule.

Thank you to everyone who journeyed home and made the weekend a tremendous experience. Check out photos from the weekend and keep sharing your memories using #ThyLoyalChildren on social media. On behalf of your UC Alumni Association, we are honored to help you celebrate at this special time each year.
